A Purple and Pink Abstract Mural for a Dream Living Space
Working Together on the Design
This abstract mural was a true collaboration between the homeowners and myself. They liked my series of Abstract Ocean Paintings so I based the proposed designs on several of these paintings. Then, I created a series of digital mockups that showed the proposed design in photos of the actual kitchen. With each round of feedback, we refined the color scheme and saturation level.
The Inspiration
I based this mural on one of my abstract acrylic ink paintings. I love acrylic inks for their incredible intensity and fluid, organic quality. It was an exciting challenge to adapt an acrylic ink piece to the wall.
The Imagery & the Color Scheme
Against the clean white of the kitchen, the mural is bold, joyful, and full of life. Bright fluorescent pink accents pop against the deeper purples, bringing the the homeowners’ favorite colors together.
One of the things I love most about abstract work is the way it invites the viewer to bring their own imagination to it. As the deep purples and pinks bloom across the wall, the organic shapes that emerge could be waterlilies drifting on a still pond or sea anemones in a tide pool. Every person who walks into this kitchen might see something a little different. It’s a wall you can look at a hundred times and still find something new in it.
