Introducing My New Abstract Ocean Paintings Series: Beneath the Surface
By Alyssa Lichtenstein
My newest series of abstract ocean paintings is a body of work inspired by tidepools and underwater scenes. The ocean and its surrounding landscape has always fascinated me, with infinite colors, textures, and movements. That sense of mystery and depth inspired my newest series of acrylic ink paintings.
Working with acrylic ink gave me the perfect medium to explore the feeling of the underwater world. I let the ink pool and flow, creating depths of color that feel alive and constantly in motion. These layers capture the sense of shifting light, the quiet pulse of currents, and the life that drifts and dances below. Plus, I drop in bursts of color to mimic coral, kelp, or moving currents, and add metallic details that shimmer quietly when the light hits them.
Some of the pieces echo coral formations or kelp forests, while others suggest rippling tides, schools of fish, or fragments of light refracting through the surface. Altogether, they capture impressions, the emotions and atmospheres of the underwater ocean and the many texture of nature.
Iโm excited to finally share these acrylic ink abstract ocean paintings with you. This body of work that dives beneath the surface and explores the underwater world. Additionally, these pieces reflect an exciting new direction toward abstraction in my work. Finally, I hope these paintings offer viewers a moment of calm and immersion, and a chance to drift, imagine, and connect with the natural world.
