This underwater mural is one of my most exciting and immersive projects to date. This floor-to-ceiling is a dive into the breathtaking world beneath the ocean’s surface. I was greatly inspired by the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the ocean life off the coast of California. I began by sketching out the composition. Next, I painted the water, rocks, sand, and kelp. Then, I drew the creatures on paper so I could decide their best placement before tracing and transferring them to the wall itself. I placed each creature to create a sense of natural movement and depth. An octopus peaks out from the depths of a rock cavern. A school of anchovies swirls through the composition. A kelp forest sways with the ocean current. Sharks swim along the ocean floor. I carefully selected color palette to convey the range of luminous blues and greens of the underwater world. I hope that everyone who sees this underwater mural feels like they’re standing at the bottom of the sea.
